Breaking Bad

Since I made drawings for Game of Thrones Characters, I decided to create another piece for Characters of the Breaking Bad series. But this time I wanted to create a line up like my “Hip Hop Legends” piece, and I wanted to make the figures have more detail to them. The people I think I didn’t do so great was Skyler and Saul, there’s just something missing with those two, but that’s okay cos’ I’ve gotten better at drawing faces with the others (I think). I got this idea from one of my previous drawings of Walter, so this is just adding on to that drawing.

Adobe Ideas/Draw Again……

I’ve been having another go drawing celebrities on the iPad, just going back on the black and white sketch approach. I’ve been learning how to draw faces at different angles some of these drawings have been successful and some haven’t. I have drawn Walter White from the breaking bad series, which I think turned out quite well. Bob Ross the artist, which came out okay but I think still needs improving. Sir Smoke A lot, which was drawn well I feel and Bruce Lee which is someone I still have to master. You can tell its him but there’s always just “something” missing. But anyway it’s been a good experience and has helped me develop my drawing skills on the IPad so that’s a plus!!

This was my initial drawing of Bob Ross, it kinda looks like him but his features are quite soft and I’ve found my strokes have been quite thick in this piece so I had to change it

A Tribe Called Quest

The initial drawings

This is Q-tip the other vocalist of the group

This is Phife Dawg one of the the two lead vocalists of the group, I was kinda sad the way my drawing turned out of him just because he is my favourite of the two and the drawing didn’t come out so well

This is Ali Shaheed Muhammad, he is the Dj of the group creating the beats and instrumentals

On each of the figures, I have tried to incorporate the ‘A Tribe Called Quest’ pattern into their iris’ it’s not very easy to notice

The end product

I had a little look through on the whole movement of ‘Pop Art’ and what I found was that it celebrated the popular culture of the time. In the sixties Andy Warhol created pieces of Art based on everyday items and celebrities that were significant to him(Campbell’s soup can, Marylyn Monroe screens). Roy Lichtenstein also did this by recreating comic strips that he enjoyed, the whole idea was stating that people and items of the sixties were just as important to use as subject matter as the subject matter that was used in past ‘fine Art’ pieces. So I decided to make a Pop Art piece on something that is important to me, one of my favourite Hip-Hop groups “A Tribe Called Quest”. Although they are not performers of now days Pop music, they were Big in the nineties (and I was born in the nineties so that’s good enough for me) their message was very positive in their music and were all about getting creative with their lyricism, unlike the Hip-Hop artists of today who have really pathetic rhymes and are all about ‘gettin’ money’ ‘fuckin’ bitches’ and ‘smoking weed’. A Tribe called quest consists of ‘Ali Shaheed Muhammad'(left) ‘Q-tip'(centre) and ‘Phife Dawg'(right) this is if your looking at my finished art piece.
